Default How private are PM's

As the title suggests.

Are the management, or moderators able to read PM's sent between members.

I don't mean "do you read them", rather, "can you read them" if necessary ?

Hi both,
I can't read them and am grateful for that
I've just had a good look round and am pretty certain, at moderator level anyway, that PMs are just that; private messages.
It may be possible to access them at admin level but I think Dave is far too straightforward to bother.
Here's the relevant pull down of what we see, those PM links don't go deeper, just statistics and to clear the in and out boxes only.
If you need more reassurance check with NickG or others who run bbs.
Rich

Cant say for this site, I don't use vBulletin, I can't read them using phpbb that I use. In reality, if I wanted to read them I could, but that would be by querying the database behind the board. I do know though from other vBulletin forums that admins can read PM's. Having a quick google, looks like its a add,

http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=91369

However while it may be possible, I have no information about if its been done, not my forum, none of my business.

Thanks for the replies.

I will add, that although I have had "disagreements" with the forum management at no time have I doubted their integrity with regard to the question topic.

Not wishing to fan the flames as it were, but I know for a fact that PM's can and are read on another forum I know.

I would never dream of reading or trying to read a private PM, or come to think of my wife's mail, bank account, or whatever, to me they are what they say they are private. It is none of my business, added to the fact I would be very, very afraid my Victorian grandmother would rise out of her grave and smite me down or worse box my ears as she was wont to do quite often
As Richard says, Dave C probably could but having met him, that sort of thing is so far below him, it pales into insignificance.
If you are afraid of someone reading PM on here don't put them on here

John

You're lucky!

You can send PM's in Scottish and no Inglishers can understand them
