Default Passive Pre-Amp

Passive Pre-Amp

Many members are experienced builders. Please think back to your earlier days of knowledge and ability and vote as you would see fit for the future direction of WD. This may be slightly different to your own requirement today.

Red face Re: Passive Pre-Amp

I'd vote YES to a simple Pseudo-Shunt design. Remote Control could be offered to 'add value'...

EDIT - Stepped options, and a GOOD TVC would be options as well...

Again yes, pseudo shunt works well or how about a stepped or TX based passive?

Yes, I may even buy it myself, I need something like that now. And maybe having the option of 1) a shunted alps, 2) a stepped attenuator (though I am using one of those with a shunt at the moment), and finally 3) a TVC or autoformer. Other options could be silver wire, and maybe WBT phono sockets, and maybe a choice of input selector.

I will assume, unless corrected, that the Yes vote will include a transformer based preamplifier.

It does for me. (see no 3 in my list of suggested levels of the pre).

Peter, also a TVC for matching drivers, 0 to -20db, Fostex a tad expensive.

Yes, as a transformer attenuator (such as Sowter 9335) but not an active device such as PreII.

All options of passive such as pot, shunt pot, stepped attenuator and transformer attenuator could be offered as options in the same case.

Will, I don't follow, is this a suggestion for a pre-amp or something different?
