WD25T feet - spikes, plinths, etc- - any views ?
Has anyone experimented with different feet on the 25Ts. Are spikes mandatory ? My boxes are DIY Arcena - whatīs the best way to build plinths for same ?
Any suggestions more than welcome, please. |

Re: WD25T feet - spikes, plinths, etc- - any views ?
Hi Bob,
Thanks for the tip. Trouble is I donīt live in the UK and access to milling and powder coating is a bit limited in the Canaries. 3 doubts arise : Do you think the WD25Ts would respond to "weight" in the plinth area ? (I have a hard wood on concrete floor and would rather not use spikes. Might lead shot (I have about 15 kilos) in the bottom of the column go some way towards imitating the effect ? How does mild steel compare with say granite, density-wise ? Prior to reading the thread I was playing with the idea of a) adapting a spiked Mana speaker base I have into the WD25T tower and perhaps "dressing" it with left over oak parquet pieces or b) building an isolation base with a steel ball bearing between two furniture cups in turn sandwiched between two sheets of wood ply. Decisions, decisions...... |

Hi,
I used the superspike feet on my KAT6550 amp. It's a small spike housed within a shallow foot, a kind of hybrid, which does not damage the surface it is placed on. http://www.bkelec.com/hifi/Sub_Woofers/superspikes.htm It's the item at the bottom of the page. Regards Mike. |

Hi yes, I've always found making the speakers stable brings improvements in soundstage focus and depth.
Some stands have a massive effect on bookshelf size speakers. With floorstanders I'm still marvelling at the difference Bob's bases have made to the Castles. The originals were mdf which, even after I'd glued the spike inserts still wobbled and flexed, these are very solid and stable. Density-wise steel is about 3x granite but no reason you couldn't use, say, 2" granite slabs, maybe you could get the edges polished locally, then perhaps 3 wooden cones off eBay under each to the floor, sand any sharp points on them to soft and round. |

Hi Richard, Bob,
Have sourced some ready made 30 x 30 x 2cms steel slabs and am looking at getting the top edges milled to make them look decent. Then it will have to be Smoothrite, I guess. |

For sure it will. Otherwise try the superspike feet. I can recommend these...they work like the perfect clockwork of a Maurice Lacroix - and that is an absolute compliment for a collector and connoisseur like me

I had black granite plinths made for mine - secured with 4 pieces of blutak! This secures them well (Livingvoice do the same!) - and stops any vibration between wood and granite. Picture attached. You should have no problem getting someone to make those for you in the Canaries and probably a lot cheaper than the UK!
BTW - I'm contemplating selling if anyone is interested - see my post in Sales and Wanted. Steve |
