Loud click at KEL84 switch off - solutions?
This loud-ish click occurs c.80% of the time. Wondered if the Mains Filter and Spike Suppressor (in FAQs) will help.
Thanks Adrian Last edited by buddam; 7th July 2006 at 10:42 PM. |

Re: Loud click at KEL84 switch off - solutions?
Hi Adrian,
Neither, try a switch suppressor filter from RS/Farnell or a 100R in series with a 0.1µF 250VAC across each of the switch pairs ie "mains in" side of switch to "dead" side of switch. This often happens after some time due to the arc in the switch etching/corroding the contatcts so they do not make and break cleanly. John aka Dr John |

Re: Loud click at KEL84 switch off - solutions?
Hi Buddam,
This can also be related to earthing issues with the Pre2. Conversion to cathode follower mode sorted this for me. Best Wishes David |

Worked a treat John - thanks. David, I'd already gone to Cath Foll.

Re: Loud click at KEL84 switch off - solutions?
on lots of superbly reliable japanese solid state amps, and stuff, they fit little caps they call spark killers across switch contacts, same thing our esteemed dr john its talking about.
I think some mileage is to be had by getting very good switches, too. a ripe area to be looked at, if there's anything I hate its **** components causing problems, sockets, wire, hums, etc... |
