I Want One!!!
:p Big boys toy!
This is / was the P/A system at the cold war government bunker at Corsham. The site is for sale. I wonder where the system is now? How many spare valves did they stock? http://www.bbc.co.uk/wiltshire/conte..._gallery.shtml http://www.bbc.co.uk/wiltshire/conte...allery.shtml?6 |

Re: I Want One!!!
I want to go and visit the site! It looks like a fantastic piece of history, if only they'd turn it into museum like the Underground Hospital on Jersey, which is one of the most atmospheric places that I've visited.
It looks as though it would need a lot of work though to be made safe for tourists... Tony |

Re: I Want One!!!
They are 212's the Government insisted on maintaining a valve transmitter for national emergencies which apart from being far superior to solid state works during a nuclear attack. I believe they have a stash of valves too.
They will have this same transmitter in other government locations too, it is a backup system they would be foolish to scrap.

Re: I Want One!!!
I think they almost certainly will be a member of the 212 family. I remember Paul saying redifusion used them for similar purposes, and they were used for the PA on ships.
Remember when people talk about transmitting triodes, they are often talking about them being used as the AF modulator, not actually generating the RF carrier.

Re: I Want One!!!
I know an unofficial way of accessing the site. Anyone into caving who wants to set up a raiding party?
Actually, although what I've said is true, I'm sure this section is under proper lock and key. It would be an adventure though. Whilst caving and in pitch darkness, you suddenly come across a sign in a passage stating 'No Unorthorised Entry'. I've often wondered how many have gone beyond the signs. Best wishes, Greg |

Re: I Want One!!!
You can bet your bottom dollar there is a small room/large broom cupboard stacked floor to ceiling with spare valves.
