Default Shearne Phase 2 remote control

Hi,

I am not really holding my breath, but I’m looking for the remote control protocol for my newly-acquired Shearne Anniversary amp, which is missing the original one (why do people always sell their stuff without their remotes?)

Cheers.

Hello and welcome

I’d been waiting for Bob or Andy to post as they use Alps remotes but here are a couple of ideas,

Is the remote volume control pot/circuitry in working order? Perhaps it has a fault and will not work even with the correct remote.

A bit hit and miss but you could try a Signalex remote, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Signalex-...IAAOSwTqtd91tT
with these codes, http://signalex.c1.biz/codes.html

or replace the pot and/or control circuitry, https://www.hificollective.co.uk/pot...ised-alps.html
Nick Gorham the designer may be able to help, he’s on Audio Talk, http://www.audio-talk.co.uk/phpBB3/

Richard, I am not familiar with this Shearne amp .both Andy and myself have the remote add on kit from Hi-Fi collective, it is a very simple remote, but if this is what is required, then maybe Nick Lucas can help. Bob

Well Chartz has tried elsewhere with this one and the pic here shows an Alps motorized on a Shearne Audio Phase 2 Anniversary, https://pinkfishmedia.net/forum/thre...ersary.245689/

but the text here, under Working order, end para 2, says no remote for a Shearne Phase 2 Reference Integrated, http://www.soundstagenetwork.com/rev...rne_phase2.htm

so perhaps clarification is needed as to the exact model.

Edit, sorry, he says Aniversary in the text of his post so we can assume that's the right picture of an Alps motorized and guess the remote might just do volume, but maybe he can tell us if it should change inputs as well?

Hm, really can’t see the point here. This is the OP’s first post and is completely irrelevant to WD/WAD. As much as I understand that some of us are willing to be as extensively helpful as possible, it is also worth noting that the OP has not visited since he first posted. My inclination is to advise, after he has been more than adequately accommodated, that he is on the wrong forum and he/we move on.

Yes, I too noticed this Greg but, all to often I get told to relax, so I replied to Richard's post. Bob

Hi everyone,

Sorry, but I got no notification. My mistake, probably.

Thanks for the welcome - although I seem to be on the wrong forum, sorry again - and the answers!

So yes, this amp is rare it seems, and the remote receiver is based on a Zilog 1866 Z86E0412PSC processor (programmable once).

The remote circuit just does volume and muting. I know that the processor works, and that the remote circuit works too. That is certain. Motor command works.

Pictures below, full res inside the amp. I was just asking whether someone had a clue

Hi Chartz, yes I remember Shearne amps reviewed in HFW 20 years ago, about when we started on this BB.

Unless you can contact the designer for the code, I'd get a programmable remote and cup of tea and see if you can crack the code, if only for the fun of it

or, change the existing control board for the volume-only pcb linked to at HFC but that may not do mute if it matters.

If the pot itself is the culprit WD do a motorized Alps, and a control pcb, the pcb includes switching relay inputs which you may not need but have a look in the shop, pcb; http://www.world-designs.co.uk/boards.htm Alps; http://www.world-designs.co.uk/potentiometers.htm

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the links.

I already have a Harmony universal remote but so far no cigar.

The motorised pot works fine by the way.

A fun project, this!
