Default Linn fighting Back?

Saturday night and TV is oh, so interesting. To amuse myself I have been surfing the net and found the attached on the vinyl engine forum. For those of you who haven't heard Linn has just brought out a new mod kit for the Sondek.

http://www.vinylengine.com/phpBB2/album.php

With the recent trend re-emerging for older Lenco, Garrard and Thorens designs has Linn decided to fight back. I have to admit I intend to sell my Linn to help fund the purchase of a Thorens TD 124, Garrard 401 or Lenco GL 75 as I want to hear how an idler drive compares to a belt drive, suitably mounted of course.

For the one or two of you who have read my previous posts and that includes me I have said that I have not switched on my Linn since buying a couple of JVC D/Ds in the spring and that I have been quite impressed by their sound. However, as a chap who cannot sit still, I am impatient to try out a real oldie and get my hands on an idler deck. But, with this new Linn mod do I hold back just to see if the improvement takes away the need to sell the Linn.

Perhaps Linn will be able to demo the modified LP12 at Bristol early next year.

The design itself seems so obvious why wasn't it done years ago.

Basil

Looks like it will only accomodate Linn arms as the arm mounting boss seems to be part of the casting.

The poster on the Vinyl Engine seems to have a 'Pro Engineer' soild model CAD drawing of the sub chassis, interesting... Armed with a drawing like that one could no doubt get several of these machined from soild aluminium and hard black anodised for rather less than £3K

Looks like the Alphason Sonata sub-frame....that was made of pig iron and had the same turret system for the arm....nothing new then!
