Yep, that works ok. Valve shortages to be expected really although I’m sure China will accommodate.

And likely more chip shortages due to Ukraine neon production ceasing.

This is nothing new.
The Russia situation is yet another straw on the camel's back.
I'd get a spare set of valves in but I guess many of us already have a stash of "toobs" in their toyboxes. I've got enough here to keep my amps going for possibly as long as I have got!
Not necessarily all brand new or perhaps the flavour that many would prefer, but if it keeps your kit going.............
If you want my bet, it'll be the main audio types that will get scarcer/pricier. ECC8* types and their equivalents, and the EL84/34 and on a lesser scale KT88/6550 as being the principal fodder for most commercial PA and instrument amps. There weren't that many valve manufacturers left anyway.

Personally I think the supply of the more modern bits is more under threat, already since the Pandemic many manufacturers have "rationalised" their product ranges especially in the (relatively) low volume devices that many audio designers/manufacturers use. Not helped by a lot of famous names being swallowed up by large global players who shut down plants and move to the far east and basically end up with an eggs in 1 basket scenario. There isnt any money in the discrete components that we like to use, the bucks are in chips designed for the Telecomms and Automotive industries. These by their very nature have short production lives as the next new thing comes along.
At our level i imagine there will still be supplies of old surplus stock available at a price as is the case even now.

Andy.

Recently had cause to buy some spares, and noticed that as soon as this was announced that the usual suspects on the bay put prices up by almost 50% overnight.

I suspect that price for nos and alternative equivalents for standard valves will be next for a bit of price gouging.

If you can buy some now at decent price and need them, stock up. If you are sitting on stocks that will last a year or two, i would sit tight. I can't see this going on for a long time. The war is too costly to continue for russ.

Most of us prolly have a supply to see us out when it comes to small signal valves. Power valves usually only give a couple of years with moderate use. Chinese may be the only option in a few months.

It's not just valve and components.
I have a Peugeot e208, just been in for service with some upgrades inc a charger.
Tried charging it the other day next an 10% charge max = ca 20 mls did the same 3 days running, so booked it in for a look at, tried charging again, bingo full charge.
Took it in and as I was being chauffeured home received a call saying, known problem, nothing can be done, awaiting replacement charger no idea when this will arrive, and should have been told about this when serviced. Of course I wasn't.
So I have a vehicle that may or may not fully charge, cannot risk long journeys obviously, plus there have been a lot of reports of charging stations being vandalised with cables cut off.

John, perhaps the powers that be are unwittingly causing a 2 tier society with electric cars.
