Default World designs changes

Hi all
As you can see from the following email sent to Richard Maile and myself WD is closing today.
There is not a great deal I can say about this, I guess it is just down to market forces, recession etc. Shame to see it go but that is life.
I am not sure what will happen to the BB, as it will require someone who is web/computer savvy, can devote time, and more importantly money, to keep it going. I am sure it can be done as PFM, DIY Audio etc. manage to do it but at present it is up in the air.
For the time being please direct all comments here.

John - Dr John

"Richard and John

This is notice to say that I will be closing World Designs for business at midday on Wednesday 21st July 2010.

I don’t know whether you want to keep the forum going but, if you do, it will need transferring to a new server (eventually). I’m happy to keep it hosted until the server facility comes up for renewal.

However the VBulletin license fee currently has expired. You can continue to use the software indefinitely but can’t update to the latest 4.0 software (not that you need to).

I suggest you change the email address for notifications to one of your own so you can see who is registering.

You can, of course, announce all this on the forum as you wish. If you need any further info please don’t hesitate to contact me.

And thanks for all your help so far. Sorry it has come to this but, as I explained to Noel Keywood, the DIY kit market is now the province mainly of geeks as products out of China are keeping prices low enough that most users can’t see why they should pay more for a kit!

Best wishes

Peter

Hello John and all,

Yes, sad to get this email from Peter.

Things have changed a lot in the 17 years since the first WAD kit and, as Peter says, you can certainly get a lot of gear for your money these days.

Ironic that I'm presently helping a second friend of mine restore his vinyl system that he mothballed in the 90's. This friend is quite well off and had moved on to 5.1 etc and had a quiet chuckle at my "record" player - 'til he heard it - then he was hooked again!

Ah well, things move in circles, I'm sure the 2 channel market may be shrinking but reading between the lines think that it may just be Peter who's moving on here.

And who can blame him, I don't, and feel sure we wish him all the best.

If anyone is computer-savvy and would like to advise me and John on costs and what's involved in continuing the BB we would love to hear from you.

All the best.

Hi to all,

Those who have been part of World Designs deserve my best wishes for all of the help and innovation they have produced from their efforts. It is sad to see the demise of such a company and I would like to stay in touch with those who have to me provided such great sounding equipment and given such enjoyment to many.

To all my best wishes for the future

Rod

Hi all,

I've not posted for a very long time and only picked this up on another forum.

This is a very sad day indeed. WD taught me a lot as did the knowledgeable forum membership I've also made many good friends here and still get to see and abuse a lot of them at Audio meets . WD will be missed a great shame.

Is there any chance of somebody picking the pieces up I wonder? Maybe not given the market pressures mentioned above. I hope the forum survives though...

I would be happy to keep the forum running and move it to a new server.

Also I might be interested in buying WD as a whole?

Regards

Dave
