Default Newbie Restrictions

Hi-bearing in mind the "Petrotek" problem in the "For Sale" section would it be a good idea to restrict the use of certain forum facilities to new members until they have posted a certain number of times ?

Other forums have similar restrictions and i have noticed before people who have registered just to sell an item.

In these troubled times it would seem sensible to do all is possible to protect the forums reputation.

Does anybody have any suggestions for more rules, come on lets really tie the place up !!! I suggest the post min limit should be set to 100 before you can sell and the members 101 post to be counter signed by all mods.

Bugger only 92 more posts to go before I can offer a "too good to be true sale item"

Hi Tony-the rule was suggested by a forum member (ME) to protect ALL of us from being conned, after a new member tried to do exactly that !

Restricting a member to 10 posts (if it is 10) before he can offer items for sale is hardly the end of the world !

Don't you think it a good idea ?

I know you were. So was I. BUT

I don`t think its a good idea, I have been a member here for a few months but as I am new to valves and DIY but old to HI-Fi in general, I don`t post that often and so if the limit was set at 10 I still couldn`t sell anything, But If I really was going to set about defrauding someone I could make 10 posts in a day and then sell the "too good to be true" item. and you would all be "happy" . I don`t think so. Arbatory limits and rules don`t protect anybody, as always its buyer beware and if it seems to good to be true then it probably is.

Won`t post on this subject again getting to near to the big TEN

Regards
Tony

Look, see what you have done, I now have ten posts and can be considered an upstanding member of the internet community and you can all trust me implicity. All it takes to achieve this exaulted status is 10 posts, I wasn`t even trying. Anyway I have to go as my 9 oclock curfew is due and the ankle tag will set the alarm off if i`m not back in my cell.

Regards Tony
