Bet it sounds good,it uses valves after all.Sadly i dont see the her indoors or the cat getting on well with it.

Thats mah baybee...in all his glory. Luckily the cat or 'bird' doesn't have to get on with it. Its just my 2 workmates, it's only used in our workshop.

I don't think that big limp of rock beneath him helped IMHO

I feel it gave BOBA a chance to think he was 'above his station' especially when connected to Andrews Heils and Steves Lowthers. He got a bit cocky on the soft acoustic stuff but was mullered by the 'Metal-licker' track

Lovely Dave, but, how did it sound when compared to several grands worth of 211 ala ivemy????

Did it win any trophys.......

Whats the total build cost now????

I'd like to say it blew Andrew I's Ongaku out of the water but it didn't, OK BUT it won a trophy!!! It really was squidged but Metal-licker though, it went from being an amp to a compressor

The night before at the 'evening seminar' NickG and T'other Andrew pretty much explained to me why they build these SE behemoths and sadly listening to BOBA on anything challenging shows up why they have a chokes/TX's/PSU's and other stuff the size of small garages. Though to be fair it did sound cracking through Steve's Lowthers (high sensitivity) and on acoustic stuff through Andrews Heils they even got a round of applause! I was impressed enough to take it to the next step. The good sound must have been Tony's 'Pot-not-in-a-box' which funnily eough cost more than BOBA itself!!!

Cost, valves were Â£6 from ebay and the RS o/p TX's were Â£7.75 (plus vat) each.

After a beer last night I've come up with a master plan for BOBA, I'll post it over on the BOBA thread in wee while.

way to go dave. now that looks like my kind of amp and i bet it sounds like it too. nice breadboard plenty of looose wires, just great maaaan . take care

It's undergoing a o/p TX revamp, I learnt about parrott-feeding today (parafeed) over on the BOBA thread.

i'm struggling along with a 26 pre for the 76-45. i've found if i wear industrial noise guards i cant hear it huuuummmm:-)

without sticking my nose in (much)you must try one of those 6em7 SE at some point. they are so good it's hard to find something else to replace it with.

Yes, they don't hum at all.

I've built two now, no, make that three, I built one for a friend five years ago and he's still using it.

Not quite a PX4 but I could live with one if I had to.

Think I'll put one in the girlfriends. Replace that boom box, it's dreadfull.

They really are good and so simple to build. Nice little fun amp for the second room.

I'll be finding out soon-ish just how good they are in fact.

At WF07 NickG and Andrew Ivimey very kindly gave me 2 x 13EM7's and 2 x 6EM7's to lure me in the world of SE properly.

I intend on building a proper SE amp using a pair of these. I fancy making an SE integrated amp using the WD Relay switching board as its a neat crosstalk-free way of switching lots i/ps in a domestic setting.
It's not going to be a BOBA either, I'm actually going to buy proper O/P TX's too

I've got 2 off 350/6.3 volt Mains TX's already for it and an unloved 30V DC 2A SMPS for the heater supplies if I decide to use the 13's heaters in series too.

The o/p TX's and suitable PSU inductors are the only things holding me back at the moment. I want to finish my Lenco/u.p/DL103 build first though.
