Non-valid e-mail address

Due to repeated attempts at using forum e-mail addresses for spamming we have to ban any users who do not have a valid e-mail address either on Registration or because of change of user e-mail address later.

Please make sure that your e-mail address is correctly entered into your UserCP details.

Anyone who has been banned because of non valid e-mail address errors can contact us using the Contact Us form quoting a correctly working e-mail address and we will then lift the ban as soon as we have ascertained the validity.

Sorry if this causes current members grief but it is important that the security of the forum is not abused by spammers.

In addition we are rejecting Registrations from e-mail addresses ending with @cashette.com @web.de @gawab.com @hotpop.com , all of which are frequently used by forum spammers.

Again we are sorry if some of these prevent bona fide users Registering with this forum. Please use an alternative e-mail address for your Registration.

would that be gmail addresses or googlemail addresses

I ask because I tried to get gmail.com for slatedeck but could only get googlemail.com

I just tried some alternatives and found out it works with either gmail.com and googlemail.com ???

I never knew that ???

This problem is escalating.

As a result we have extended the list of addresses commonly associated with SPAM and are actively banning members whose applications do not appear to be bona fide.

Apologies to anyone affected by our blocking procedures but we are in danger of being invaded by Spammers if we do not aggressively combat this menace to our Bulletin Board Security.

I have now added a MOD to the BB which asks new members to correctly identify a picture from a small gallery (along the lines of "Click on the picture of the Cat" not "Which is the Mona Lisa"!). This is to avoid would-be spammers joining the forum through auto-registration scripts.

We have been getting up to 20 applications per day from bogus spamming applicants so, hopefully, this will stop them in their tracks and allow me to get on with some design work instead of vetting each and everyone.
