slight distortion .....
hi, i noticed today when listening to damien rice.
i dont have a wad amplifier, but wondered if you guys could shed some light on it. upon listening tonight, and turning the amp up to around ten o`clock,(tube technology unisis) i noticed distortion coming from the speakers, in the high mid and treble region, bass was fine. its a kind of papery sound if you know what i mean i know its not the speakers as i tested them on another amp, and its also NOT apparent on other cd`s, just damien rice, eva cassidy and a few others. I wondered if adding the audio synthesis dax and monarchy dip is highlighting distortion on these discs, or is the dac outputting a higher gain into my amp, saturating the line input? or could it be the pre or power tubes?? help is very much appreciated. thanks

Re: slight distortion .....
sounds to me like the amp is being overdriven. I am sorting out this in one of my amps (for different reasons) there is a lot of peaks in eva cassidy music, (don't know damian rice) and the cd out put is quite high
on the song bird cd there is one peak that seems to distort slighly on the cd but the rest should play ok.. many speakers would not identify it.. I assume 10 oclock is turned up quite a bit.. steve |
