Well, NickG hit it on the head. A dry joint on the grid stopper. Whenever I measured it, it was fine, but leave it and was going open circuit (sometimes).
I got some 680Ohm resistors and now the annode disippation is down to 23.2W, so hopefully I can look forward to longer valve life.
