Re: Frank Zappa
One size fits all, is probably my all time favorite. It contains a taste of everything he had ever done before,up to that point, only in it for the money and unclemeat [sqeaky speeded-up voices] turn up again in inca roads. Hot rats blistering guitar solos [willy the pimp] return in san Berdino and pyjama people.Top it off with avant-garde poetry[eveline a modified dog]and the best jazz/soul/rock/fusion track[andy] EVER!! Possiby the best Frank Zappa album all round.

Re: Frank Zappa
the version of 'G Spot Tornado' on the Yellow Shark is testament to how great FZ truly was. The musicians involved demanded the score so they could play it (it was originally a Synclavier piece).
me, I'm still at the filmore east, june 1971. :p |

John Zorn? Yeah I have Uncle Meat. Pretty much finished the Barry Miles bio now, well worth checking out. I hadn't realised he was hanging out with Love, Hendrix and so forth. Or the huge number of people he recorded/jammed with. Also shows he often really wasn't a particularly nice guy. Not sure if producing great music is an excuse for that or not. Some of the later Beefheart stuff can be a bit easier to handle, I really enjoy Ice Cream For Crow with Gary Lucas on guitar. If proof were needed of his guitar abilities Evening Bell is absolutely conclusive. Insane. Some of my favourite lyrics on there too. |
