Hi David,

its a little unusual this but i have changed it back to 1M and the hummmm has gone.

I would think it is input impeadance. The MF X-Pre has possible got a particularly high output impeadance compared to the preamp you use.

I will try a 500kr at some point to see if that works. And then 250kr etc.

Now to bypass the volume on a single ended triode el84 amp, to see if that works.

Then tommorrow wire up the active x-overs.
See if all this faffing has been worthwhile.

Regards
Jim

The active x-over turned up today, am in the moddle of a production line to make the cables. Thr first attempt i didn't balance the cables and it hummmmed like a good one. With balanced cable it has introduced a little hiss at high volume but nothing major.

Maplins did me today as usual, a last minute dash to get some 3pin xlrs, i asked

" could i have 2 3 pin female xlr's"
reply " certainly sir there you go"

Get home and find one 3 pin xlr and one four pin. Thanks a bunch!!! A three hour round trip in the rain (including a medicinal pint break on route) from where i live. And they over charged me for some bannana plugs grrrrrrrr. I may boycot them altogether from now on. £3.40 for an xlr its a joke, i think they are only 1.40 from rapid.

Moan over

I'll report back once i have a fully functioning active system.

Regards
Jim
