About low extension reproduction, here you have one really interesting approach, "constant directivity source"; or cardioid woofer, or resitance enclosure. It should allow placing really near to the rear wall. IMHO it should also integrate pretty nicely with dipole mids.
There is obvious treadeoff made on the expence of sensitivity, but I dont see here nothing which could not be healed with cone area.
This idea does not try to take any advantage of extra amplification of the room in the wall placement in the low extension reproduction. It merely tries to not to interact with the room in any undesired or desiderd way.
The guy bulding this will pretty soon deliver decent measurements, as far as I know him. I'll supply them here also.
