Re: Technics SL 1200/1210 - Any Good?
ooooooooooooooooooooooooo ver'bad indeed!
and if you should for example compare to Vogon poetry I will remind you about that of Paul Neil Melville. (How'd I do that? - a trick taught to me by a wily author who penned the advert 'Your plastic pal who is .... Oh never mind. I am being completely silly... ) - I'll shut up. I'm off to park cars! Re: Technics SL 1200/1210 - Any Good?
Many thanks for the feedback on alternative arms and links to other sites. The schroeder looks interesting, trying to get more info.
No comment as yet as why one should bin the original technics arm. ( Hi Fi World opener on the SL1200) I am looking at how I might improve it or make a completely new arm that will fit into the technics arm support. I have aquired some aircraft quality aluminium and could machine one from the solid based on an inverted U profile with fixed head mount. Any resonance in the original arm could be dampened by machining some slots on the underside and foam filling but I have to build a suitable electronic microphone pre amp that will allow me to make a meaningfull measurements as to what is happening in the arm on a scope. I can tape a small mike capsule onto the arm. Anyone tried using the expanding foam used by builders ??? one would have to insert a plastic tube in the arm to protect the wiring but it would give one a perfect foam fill and its very rigid when set. There is a damping device being sold in the US for the technics which uses silicon fluid to dampen the arm movement. Will this also impove the return of acoustic energy in the arm to the baseboard ?? Steep learning curve. Ianmac |

I'm surprised Marco hasn't posted here. He really rates the Technics arm.
Probably too busy on The Art of Sound Forum!

Re: Technics SL 1200/1210 - Any Good?
Have just built a fluid damper for the SL1200. It transforms the deck
It is much cheaper than changing arms et all. Has anyone else gone down this route Ianmac |
