Default valve upgrade.

Hi,
I have a birthday in a couple of months and being stuck as what to ask the girlfriend for ( pause for the usual suggestions ) I thought of better valves for the Kel84.
She is used to me asking for strange items, previous birthdays have brought, planks of wood for speakers and boxes of fluff for filling cabinets.

I am currently using Mullard ecf80 in the front and the standard j/j el84's in the rear.
Any suggestions anyone please and of good suppliers.

you might like to try some EL84M, I think they're a definite upgrade over the JJs, Peter has them,

Hi John&Jake

You could also try E80CF's on the i/p's as mentioned in a thread on here somewhere.

I am, also, using ECF80 Mullards and EL84 JJ's, would be interested to hear how you find the EL84M's, if you get 'em.

Was thinking of trying the E80CF's a while back, have got some other bits n bobs to aquire and the E80CFs will pad the order out a bit. Doh! now Ive talked myself into it!

try tubeshop.com, they have a good few there.

I suppose the only choice really is nos ones, fortunately el84s aren't dear, I know there where philips, and of course, mullards...dunno how much the mullards are...why don't you research what guitaritst use? they are fussy about tone....

just a word of caution, most branded guitar tubes are reflektor, and perhaps, tho not tried, worth the premium over sovteks/EH

peters are sovteks, and ei, I have heard a good few ei tubes, and whilst I like the fact they used telefunken??? machinery they bought, they were all microphoinic and sounded kak, however, the premium ones may be good, not heard ei el84s tho'

Thanks for the replies guys.
I am happy with the Mullard ecf80's as they were an improvement from the day they were plugged in, I hope they have plenty left.
I will research the options suggested for the el84's and present my girlfriend with a wish list (sadly the valves will be at the top but you never know )

cheers
