Yes, Steve, that exactly why I asked, it doesn't seem to have nearly enough gain for a grounded cathode in a phono.

A cascode of a pair of 56 could get you near there in one stage. Would take a lot of B+ and a separate heater circuit for the top valve would be a good idea.
