To achieve this level of damage you have either overloaded the cap by a very significant amount - try 100V or more rather than 25V if that is it's rating OR it was reversed in the circuit.

Greg is right. This needs sorting. As amp plays apparently unaffected I'd look at the matching cap in the other channel to check it is OK, and then check voltages in the explosive channel.

hi Greg & Jerry,
I'll check your points in the morning but thinking back to last week there was a noise through the speakers for a couple of minutes, then it stopped and played normally.
I haven't had experience with this so called "motorboating sound" but the sound did sound like the putt putt of a motorboat.
Could this have been the cap giving up.
After checking voltages I'll source a new cap.

John, I have some Elna Silmic caps of the correct uf but higher voltage rating. PM if interested with address and I'll send them gratis.
