Kel84
Hi!
I am newbee in this area and seeking help/advice on upgrading. Some time ago I managed to put my first kit (ever) together a Kel84 (single input version) and it works. I am very impressed with the sound quality of this little thing (even compared with my jadis set up). Just a shame that WAD is no more.. I used to be upset because I did'nt get all the parts delivered and the communication with the WAD staff was very poor at the time. However the joy of building and at present listening to the amp has affected me in a positive way. I am now ready to take this a step further and that is the unfathomable path of upgrading... So far I have changed some easy components like volume potentiometer, speaker binding post and the phono sockets. Now I would be grateful if somebody could give me some detailed advice on other upgrades like capacitors, signal wiring, etc). I still lack a lot of theory in the field of electronics but I am picking up on it. It would be perfect if someone also could recommend some websites for parts and components. Kindly regards Andreas |

Re: Kel84
Hi Andreas
You can try the shunt volume control as depicted in the FAQ section schroll down to upgrades and tweaks and you will see the artical on shunt volume controls and lowering feedback which is another good upgrade. I personaly think the best upgrade would be changing the .22uF coupling caps for the likes of Audyn MKP plus they will really make a big differance and are on par with the lower range of M - caps, any how if you attempt any of these up grades let me know how you got on, can you obtain the Audyn caps in your area or country. Try caps first then shunt and the feedback last. Regards Acorn |

Re: Kel84
Hi, Acorn!
Thanx for your reply. Will write back as soon as I have completed the upgrade. One more question; Is it worth to change the original internal signal wiring (single screen copper braided wire) to a silver? If yes I would be grateful to get information were i could order it. regards Andreas |

Re: Kel84
Andreas,
Have a good read of this http://www.worldaudiodesign.com/foru...e+bridge+kel84 and try the upgrade outlined in post 7. Its easy, lots of people on here can help you, its cheap, and it makes a nice improvement to amp. all the part numbers are listed to allow you to order from maplin. Thanks Paul |

Re: Kel84
Hi
The best change I made was to replace all the signal wiring with thin solid core cable. Just plain copper was an excellant upgrade. Regards Richard |
