Default Ongoing WD25T construction - some questions

Hi everyone. I am building cabinets now for the WD25T´s (with standard drivers, not the EX version). The cabinets are using 12mm chipboard + 6 mm MDF, and I have found it simple to build them this way.

I bought the plans, foam, drivers, and crossover parts about a two years ago without having time (!) to start the project. Now I have moved to a new place and I have a more adequate space for the speakers so I decided to (finally!) start.

Moving to my new place I lost the CD I got from WD with the plans so I am a little unsure about a few things I would like to ask here (i followed the original 2006 article for the cab construction, adapting them to the 18 mm panel aracena-like build):

1) I have the reticulated foam from WD, but I wonder how it should be attached to cover the openings into the lower part of the cab. Should I place it above the openings (upper chamber) or below, and should it be glued?

2) regarding the stuffing I read the directions from the original 2006 article (which include dimensions). Should I use 1 or 2 U-shaped fiber pieces per chamber? Regarding the upper chamber, would the fiber also cover the openings into the lower chamber? And the same for the lower chamber: would the fiber also cover the openings from below?

3) I have lost some of the parts for the crossover as well in the meantime (which I just realized and I hate it because I wanted to finish the speakers this weekend!). Now that I have to buy those parts as well, I would like to ask if someone can PM me the XO schematic for the standard tweeter version (from the latest/best version).

If Andy Thresh form WD designs is reading this (from whom I got the plans initially), I would appreciate if he could mail me the XO schematic again.

Hope someone can help me with this.

Thanks,

Sebastian

Thinking about the crossovers I think I have not lost the parts, only that I got them for the revised dersion (v2) of the crossover, which is different from the one on the original 2006 article.

Can anyone mail/post the v2 corssover?

The parts I have are:

Caps: 1.5, 6.8, 31
Resistors: 3.3, 8.2, 3.5, 15
Coils: 4x 0.35 (series?), 2x 0.45

I hope someone can help.

Sebastian

Sebastian,

Hi and welcome.

On the WD25A the foam would be on the outside, so I think you should fix it below and again on the WD25A it's definitely glued - to stop any 'flapping about' - though for such a big expansive sounding speaker the woofer moves very little.

Not to sure, but only the bass section around the woofer is 'wrapped' on the WD25A. I would have thought the lower chamber would only get part filled with sand or something like (if needed) , after all with the the aperiodic vent between the upper and lower chamber, the lower is really a mini outside world.

Sorry I can't help with WD25T crossover, hopefully someone who has built them will get here eventually! On the WD25A std I still use the original spec crossover as I preferred it's balance.

Take your time to get it right, you may have noticed but I think they are
possible the best speakers in the whole world

Hello Sebastian.

I'm not sure from the replies so far whether you have everything you need. If not, I have all the plans and build instructions for the 25T, including the circuit diagram and photo of the crossover unit. If there's anything you still need, get in touch. Incidentally, the reticulated foam goes on top of the horizontal divider. I used impact glue, but sparingly - just enough to keep it the RF from flapping.

A little update: I will be receiving the last crossover parts on friday (two days time) and I hope to have the speakers ready on the weekend. I´ll post again as soon as I am finished.

Sebastian
