It may indeed but, as life's never so simple, my assumption is it's something else. At which point the fun starts!

Perhaps I'll make an effort to work out what's going on, then post back on here if I need help. I don't even know if it's the phono, pre or power amps making the noise. That's how little attention I've given the problem!
