So, is this just on loan ? if it is then why not ask the owner what the switches do and do you intend to purchase ? a lot of people are trying to help, but if it is not yours or never will be, there seems no point. Just asking. Bob

As I mentioned in the first post Bob, it was supplied as seen and without a manual, so I needed to determine a couple of things before firing her up.. no info from the previous owner, so the last thing I'd want to do is damage the amp or speakers... surely that makes sense? Just saying...

Right... having finally found some time to test her today, I can report back that with:

Left +/- pair Terminals Connected
  • Front Toggle Down/Back Toggle Up = only R speaker work
  • Front Toggle Down/Back Toggle Down = only L speaker work
Right +/- Pair Terminals Connected
  • Front Toggle Down/Back Toggle Up = only L speaker works
  • Front Toggle Down/Back Toggle Down = only R speaker works
Either Right Pair or Left +/- Pair Terminals Connected
  • Front Toggle Up/Back Toggle Up = both R/L speakers work
  • Front Toggle Up/Back Toggle Down = both R/L speakers work
The last two options sound great into my LS3/5A cones and I'd guess some longer term listening will be needed to determine if there's much/if any difference between the two

That then begs the question, why have the front toggle as both speakers only work with it up... just wire it through.

You are then left deciding which position of the back toggle is UL and which is Triode. Is one setting louder or brighter sounding? Can you scope it for power on each setting?

Or are we missing something else?

It looks like this amp is listed on eBay and being sold by Nicholas at Emporium Hifi.

Edit: It has been sold, anyone here?

Yes indeed, the unit I've got on demo has sold elsewhere, so my interesting adventure with this tidy little amp has come to an end... however, I'll most certainly pass on the comments here to the new owner, so thanks again chaps for the positive input

So, it looks to me that you have used the forum and the knowledge of its members, who incidentally contribute each year to running this excellent forum just so a third party can find out how it works and sell it and no doubt you may have made money from it in the process. Please correct me if I am wrong . Bob

Not at all Bob... all above board, somebody else beat me to the purchase, its as simple as that really... in fact, I now have £500 to spend on something else

As an aside, forgive if I'm wrong, but irrespective of where any piece of kit is sourced, aren't forums like this for the purpose this thread was started? To refresh your memory, an amp was taken on demo, no manual etc, little in the way of info on a possible mod, so its best practice to seek assistance before switching it on... and that my friend was all this was every about

OK, so in your words and I quote -- Not at all Bob... all above board, somebody else beat me to the purchase, its as simple as that really..., so let me ask another question, please explain how it was in YOUR possession but advertised on ebay and who was the seller ? Bob
