hello. this my sony tts 8000.

any thoughts on , dd, turntables.

Although not in the same league as your great Sony, I like my modified JVC QLY55F which I have been using since the spring. I went back to my Linn and couldn't listen to it for more than 5 minutes as it was so polite.

The JVC is pretty good but I have not been able to compare with an Idler deck which could change over Christmas as I will be making a new Birch Ply Plinth for a Lenco and one for the JVC.

The JVC produces a strong solid sound and has better timing than the Linn especially on piano work, but my main comment is that vinyl noise is very low even with knackered records.

I've got 9 at the moment... I prefer them to idlers and belt drives don't get a look in

Your Sony is excellent and I'm envious-want to sell it

the TTS8000 is on my wish list, they're rare in the UK,
supposed to be as good as a SP10,
it must be 2 years since I saw the last one on ebay, it went for 400 quid
I should have bought it but indecision set in,

I've been looking into DD's as I have been unluckly in obtaining a Garrard or Lenco. I managed to pick up a partially faulty Dual 606 for £5. Delivery was £15 but for £20 overall it seemed like a deal.

I know it's not quite in the same league here but I was impressed with the large motor. The bearing is in top condition as well.

I plan to fill the plinth with plaster and attached my unipivot arm to it when it's fininshed.

I have wondered how good a Technics SL1200 sounds with the Rega arms. Anyone know??

The Sony certainly looks the part!
Unfortunatly the turntable does not have the torque of the Technics SL1200.
And contrary to the rumour does not sound as good as the SP10. I know as I have recently had both on my bench!

The technics SL1200 is a fine turntable, with a poor pick up arm on it as standard.
I have been putting Rega and OL and Hadcocks andother pick arms onto 1200's for quite some time. The Rega makes this into a stunning turntable.
Nuff said.

The SL1200's have always struck me as a deck that with a little work would be very good.

Do you know if there is much difference between all the various models, SL1200, 1210, MkI, Mk2, - MkV etc, etc.

Are they all pretty much the same or are some cheaper built models just piggy backing on the name the SL1200 made?

Paul, there are minor differences in the 1200 range of turntables.
The only difference between the 1210 mk 2 and the 1200 mk 2 is the colour!
The 1210 was a black one and the 1200 was a silver t/t.
This t/t is basically the same thro its history.

It has always deserved a better plinth too!

And maybe an uprated motor control.
