Re: Kt77
Hi Stu
Yes I would like to know there differance between a KT66 and a KT77 high volts or power handling, and why were they introduced in the first place when we had KT66s and EL34s can any one come up with a plausable answer ? Regards Acorn |

Re: Kt77
I'm listening to the JJ KT77 in a WAD KiT34 in place of the svetlana EL34 I had before. I can't comment on whether they are as good as the originals but I am pleased with them. On balance the best EL34 I've heard so far.

Re: Kt77
AIUI the KT77 was introduced as a higher voltage, more rugged version of the EL34, a bit like an EL34L with knobs on. The KT77, however, departs from the pure pentode EL34, adopting the beam forming nature of the KT88. It's characteristics should, therefore, be slightly different - guitar amp users describe a 'harder' sound than the EL34 when overdriven, for example.
Anyone else like to comment with direct experience of this valve? |

Re: Kt77
I agree, I have a 50watt Marshall Guitar amp fitted with KT77s. My dad had a pair of EL34s kicking about so i gave them a go in it and they did give a softer, warmer sound. What this would mean in a HiFi amp though, i don't know.
Regards, Phil. |
