Thumbs up Slatedeck 301 Twin Plinth

Firstly, the plinth looks fantastic.

However, the old 9" SME stiuck on one side of the 12" capable armboard looks a little odd.

I'm trying to imagine just how desirable the whole thing would look if that image was retaken using, for example, a modern SME 312 (borrow Noel's?) instead.

I know that aesthetics are secondary to performance, but if form follows function then a long arm would look better on the wide plinth.

Oh, and will the spikes be available in other finishes than brassy? Matt-Silver would better complement most tonearms and Garrards I feel.

Thanks for the input. Not everyone has a 12" SME but this top-end of the range can accommodate it. We showed it with a 9" as that is what many people will be using.

The spikes are gold plated. Generally that suits a wide range of turntables but I'll investigate nickel plated as well!

Thanks for the thanks.

For some reason I thought that there were two widths of the double decker plinth available, for standard arms and big ones - I now realise that it's one size fits all.

The picture would still work better as an advertising image if you could find a tonearm that sat nearer the middle of the armboard. Showing a newer arm than the venerable 3009 would also help to stress that this is a modern high performance product and not just an upgrade for vintage equipment.

I disagree that gold plate suits a wide range of turntables, your catalogue shows pictures of 301s, 401s, Thorens and Lencos in slate plinths, all of them have silvery/brushed aluminium metal trim. The only gold plate on show is that of the (in my apologetic opinion) brassy looking spikes.

And I'll say it again, the plinth itself looks superb.
