Default Vinyl Spinners and pickups

Can of worms time!!

What would be the recommendations for the best vinyl systems at various pricing break points, say £500, £1000, £1500 and £2000.

Loricraft can do a 401 at about £650. So, add an SME or a Hadcock and what cartridge.......?

Over to you!

Ducks down behind that fence.....

The Funk certainly looks stylish and is a different approach in several areas.
Sorbothane seems like a good idea to me (I've considered using it for my 401, but never got round to it).

Oh Dark One..{ bow scrap.. scrap,bow }
it isnt Sorbothane - the matt is made of a 'close cell plastic'.
Using it on my PTOO brought a big improvemnt to the sonics.

Difficult, isnt it,with so much in each range to choose from....up to £1k,you've got the upper end Regas and their own excellent arms, plus the Michells and the cheaper Nottinghams, used Linns etc etc.

In the upper price ranges, the Origin Live Aurora is rather nice, along with the OL arms, and I'd have to add that the Sovereign is one of the best I've heard.

Cartridges....I've just changed mine after a long time, and a lot of listening, and settled on a Lyra Argo, which was a bit more than I wanted to spend, but in retrospect, worth every penny.

If you were looking at the 401,then I'd be tempted by either an Origin Live Encounter or Rega 700 and a Lyra, which should all go together very nicely, and leave room for a good phono stage also.

I'll cheat and say 2nd hand Lenco 75, Hadcock 228 and new Denon 103 properly tweaked and setup at all those price points :-)

Could substitute the Mayware Formula 4 as the arm and of course you could use the Lenco 78, 88, 99 instead of the 75.

Could upgrade to a 103R too.

But I would use a rare DD instead of the Lenco ( and I'm not saying what until I've bought a couple more )

Some confusion here, I was actually refering to the "sorbothane connected feet"
as mentioned in the product description. Not sure if it would be a good in a matt, though I believe it has been done.

Prince,
I would forget about using sorbothane feet. I'm sure that the Technics DDs would sound better without - I hav'nt decided what to use yet - probably monster sized b/bearings.

I was just thinking how happy I am with GL78, a hadcock 228 and denon 103. I am going(felt I really had) to try a kontrapunkt B when it finally arrives from Germany.

I'll never buy a new deck again!

now what is that rare and wonderful DD, James ???
