Default Vinyl Cleaning Machine (Contraption)

Just a slightly different approach to cleaning records. Works very nicely.

It works by clamping the record(s) on a freely rotating spndle assembly, so holding the records verticaly in a water bath.

The record/spindle is rotated by the action of a water pump using water jets directed onto the surface of the record.

This action causes the record to continually rotate in the water bath to promote a continuous washing action.

I've been working on this for some time now and it works quite nicely to remove dirt or contaminants. I use a fine fibre pad to clean within the groves (DIY stores as a painting pad for emulsion) and then finnish off with a rinse.

The whole contraption (I would apply the term "machine" loosely) relies on a large volume of water (25 litres plus) to remove contaminants by dilution.

So far I have found that 2 drops of washing up liquid makes a very effective cleaning solution, but have yet to experiment with other recipes.

below are a some more pics that I hope will make things clearer.

i had an idea of building something similar but with an ultrasonic element as well.

I have seen wetting agent (used in photographic development) recommended on other sites, instead of washing up liquid, less salt content I think.

But not all, some are explicitly recommended against by the manufacturer - Kodak, I think.
