Default Wd20t

The new WD20T mentioned in the latest WD letter. Looks interesting, though no details yet (you tease, you, Peter... )

Since speculation about it is invited... Assuming a couple of new drivers haven't been done by Seas for WD, as they did with the WD25s bass unit, then that looks suspiciously like a co-ax unit up-top (Seas T18RE / XFCTV2 suggests itself of the existing drivers), with a supporting woofer below of very similar design (CA18RNX for a guess from what's currently listed), probably in a 2 1/2 way configuration. Something on those lines anyway.

As there's only a single shot of the front to go on, I'm not going to hazard a guess at the loading, though a few ideas suggest themselves.

Any thoughts guys?

WD25A, A = Aperiodic.

WD20T, T = Transmission line? I know he likes them...

The 25 of WD25A harks back to the Dynaco A25, so can anyone think of a TLS with 20 in the name? Or perhaps it's just a 20cm driver, as in WD18R (R for Reflex).

Nice Dual concentric coaxial driver.

I would say same driver choice as the Moose.

Slim design should have higher WAF factor than my beloved WD25a's.

Hopefully a true 3 way design (2 1/2 ways are much easier to design apparently and get right, hence far more common). I think more forum users would be interested in this (as the audiophile choice for mid purity) over a 2.5way design. Perhaps this could be a tuneable option for different price point packages?
More extensive crossover =premium model 3 way version!
Simpler Crossover =budget 2.5 way.

Aperiodic, Same closed box set up with aperiodic venting within the cab's as WD25T?
Or closed box operation?

With the larger cab's of a floorstander I would favour these loading options over the readily available ported option.

Whatever the design it will be interesting to see the outcome.

Nice Drivers.
Looks promising.

I'm guessing its a loudspeaker and those black bits vibrate and nice sounds come out.

Have I won?

I thought TL when I saw the 'T' notation but I noted the same fly in the ointment Cobblers did: namely the WD25T floorstander, which is not a TL (although like any aperiodic box it shares a few loose characteristics such as reducing the impedence). The box doesn't really look big enough for a line either, although a tapered one, not needing to be so long, might be squeezed in. Just.

Seeing as Petercom seems to prefer 2 way (and why not when your hear what natural uncoloured sounding results he can achieve from a 10 inch bass mid).

As a second guess I suppose the second driver could actually be a Seas passive radiator in a closed box design?

As a completely far out option it could be a Class T amp active 3 way.....erm not very likely at all.

I think he will leave the Transmission line concept to physically bigger upcoming Radford designs, but who knows.

I reckon that it's a 3 way, with a dual concentric unit up top. Aperiodic loading too.

There are no cables going to the speaker, my guess is Class T amp plus wireless connectivity!

Don't laugh, someone will do it one day..

I suspect someone has done it already. All the technology exists.

I know of a company developing it. However not as a true hifi product, more for rear speakers in surround set up. WAF factor being 10x more important than quality today.

Lets all go wireless with 2 inch Bass driver active class D amp's hidden discretely within the wall to listen to MP3.
