Default Upgrading Monitor Audio 14s

Hi,

I intend upgrading the capacitors in my Monitor Audio 14s with SONIQs PXX. The current values are 4microF (treble) and 7microF (middle/bass).

The closest I can get for the 4microF is 3.3||1.0 or 2.2||1.5. Similarly for the 7microF it could be 5.6||1.5 or 4.7||2.2.

Are there any recommendations as to which combination is best or does it matter? My feeling is that the manufacturing tolerances are more than the differences.

Thanks,
Jeremy.

PS: is there a key combination for the micro symbol mu?

Thanks guys.

I'll go ahead with ordering the caps. I wonder if they can do them in "matched sets" so that the speakers remain "balanced"?

I will ask them.

Cheers,

Jeremy.

Getting the caps 'matched' may give you peace of mind but it won't unbalance the speakers if they aren't matched. Just so long as they are the same marked value and from a reliable manufacturer, that is ...

For the 7uF I would buy the 6.8uF.

For the 4uF I'd probably go for the 4.7uF. If you want to get really close to 4uF try the 3.3uF + .68uF

Got the bits I ordered yesterday. Thanks WD!

Brian, I got the cap values you suggested. I'll let you know how they sound.

I notice that the SONIQ caps have colour coded leads; one red, one blue. Without getting too an*l is there a "right" way to install them in a speaker or am I going too far with this?

Ta ever so,

JT.

The Red is connected to the Outer section of the capacitor foil winding. Some people claim that capacitors sound better if this is connected to the source. Personally I can't hear the difference, but it is marked if you think you can!
