Re: Soniq SAX
When I built my WD88XL, I wired these with the red lead on the positive side, but they are not polarity sensitive in the same way that electrolytic caps are, so I doubt it makes any differance.

Re: Soniq SAX
Hi Terry,
I was thinking about orientation with regard to coupled signal. Many coupling caps claim to have an orientation and I was wondering whether there is a preference with Soniq's. Cheers, Ian |

Re: Soniq SAX
Hi Ian.
Well I suppose if no further info comes to light you will have to try them both ways round and see what you think. This hi-fi lark is a laugh init!!. Terry |

Re: Soniq SAX
if I remember correctly the red wire is connected to the outside of the cap and the black to the inside, so it's entirely up to you how you connect them,

Re: Soniq SAX
Hi-i believe Peter said that some say they can tell the difference which way round they are, hence the red/black leads.
The two i have just fitted to my "Chokeoskvi" had two black leadout wires ! Philip

Re: Soniq SAX
I thought I remember Peter saying that he could'nt tell the difference whilst others did report a change. I just I thought I would check with the general view before I did the build only to find I need to make still more changes!!

Re: Soniq SAX
Hi Ian,
I believe the intention is that in position where one end of the cap is earthed in a circuit, the 'outer' is used at the earthy end to give better screening to RF pickup. This is why small polystyrenes have a dab of paint/dye at one end. How relevant this is for the relatively large caps used in our amps i don't know. Cheers, Phil. |
