Philip
first thoughts are to use a large heavy wooden 'block' which will also have the arm on it.
The motor I was going to place in another block.
Have seen some nice butchers blocks which may be up to the job, what do you think.

Question Re: Diy Turntable

hi-the thorens platter you refer to only seems to have the bearing spindle.
the platter bearing is a VERY important part and normally is a PRECISION engineered part way beyond diy manufacture.
that was what i meant in my last post.

ah - having looked here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1

I was thinking I could use a valve guide with another ball bearing at the bottom.

said who Greg :-)
I dont mind if it the fashion or not, its easier to build ;-)

hi-you will need to engineer for a perfect fit, best not to alter the spindle diameter.bearing surfaces are normally ground to size-not machined.
you could find a valve guide slightly undersize and use an adjustable reamer to open it up ,best of luck.
how are you going to mount the valve guide ?

i used the platter and bearing from a logic dm101 which i bought cheaply.the bearing bolts to the platter support,in my case a sheet of delrin.

I thought that you might like to see the TT I made before I got the Lenco.
http://www.theanalogdept.com/alec_byrom.htm

The system has all changed now to an all valve setup and i selling off the Origin Live power supply on ebay but this sounded amazing until i heard the lenco then it was consigned to the loft.
