Default Sunvalley 845/211 amp

Does anyone have any experience with the Sunvalley SV-S1628D? It's a power amp which can use either the 211 or 845 output valve. I've been thinking about an amp with one of those valves for a while, and I'm wonerding if this might be a good option. Unfortunately, the site's only in Japanese, which I can't read. Any information gladly received.

Many thanks,

Tim

Thank you, Colin. Why didn't I think of that?

Unfortunately, it didn't really tell me anything I hadn't found out elsewhere. The kit has been favourably reviewed here. I've been hoping that someone would produce a good-quality kit using the 211 or 845 for a while now, so I'm going to email Sun Valley and see how much it would cost to ship one to the UK. I'll report back.

Just make sure the transformers are to spec for proper 240v/250v UK mains rather than the usual European 220v.

It DOES make a difference.

A quick update. The SunValley website quotes a price of ¥129,000 (£883 or so) for a kit without valves, so I emailed them to ask for the cost of shipping to the UK. They said they don't have a UK distributor, so I'd have to order one from the Canadian distributor, who also has the English instruction manual. They quote a price of $1,850 (£1,412) plus $198 shipping. Add on import duty and VAT and I don't think there'd be a lot of change from £2,000, which is starting to look like quite a lot of money. I'm not sure now...

£2000.00 for a 845 amp, I think that is a very good price, and if it is all made in Japan, it will be fantastic. BOB

You are right, Bob, £2,000 (plus valves) for an 845/211 amp is pretty reasonable. The poor exchange rate with the dollar at the moment isn't helping. On the plus side, this write-up of the kit is certainly encouraging.
