Default 45's and 33's

I know a lot of you trawl boot sales etc searching for LP's
I need some advice are 45's equaly collectable.
I've never found time to search through boxes of LP's but today something caught my eye.
7 45's by the Beatles 4 by Parlophone and 3 by Apple.
I'll list if anyone is interested.
They look dirty and fairly well used but have their original sleeves.
Also a 3 record boxed set by George Harrison 'All Things Must Pass' . Original box including a massive poster and the condition of the sleeves would indicate that the discs have not had much use. The also look in very good condition.
I don't have the nessesary to play thes at the mo.
I paid £20 for the lot . Have I been done?.

No that sounds like a steal!

The triple album on its own if it is complete with the poster goes for more than £20 if the vinyl is in good order.

Cool Re: 45's and 33's

Stuart,
45's are indeed highly collectable, anything by the Beatles if in good nick will command very high prices. You were lucky that the pros did'nt get in ahead of you. If the 45s clean up OK and here a proper record cleaning machine is important, they will be worth money as will the George Harrison LP.Probably to get top dollar you should get them cleaned listen to them and sell on E-bay and not just in the UK. By the way has anyone ever seen a GH LP called 'The Wall' - a mate has a copy - I had never even heard of it. He had a first class LP collection but just before he got into the money (pro photographer) he had to sell virtually everything he had - esta la vida.

Stuart - you have to get to car boots before they open and scrutinise all the cars BEFORE they come onto the lot. If you ask the driver if they have any vinyl and they say yes - ask if you can have first pop, that way you get to 'the cream' (if there is any).

I have to say that unusually for Brighton all the pros and amateur collectors always behaved impeccably - who ever got to a box first was never hustled and everyone patiently waited their turn. Only once did I personally have a problem and that was with a female - I had to tell her, her fortune before she would desist.

Also be very careful of 'skimmers'. When they are found (in Brighton) they are thrown off the site. Skimming makes the records look like new but in fact a layer of vinyl has been removed - so you have no top end at all.

Allen,
I think you'll find that if this triple LP is in good or better than good condition - you are way, way off the mark.

I prefer the sound of 45's to 33's. It is however a lot of bother having to climb over all my amps and power supplies to reach over to the turntable and change records every track.

Picked up Bohemian Rhapsody in a charity shop for 50p the other day, was I done?

This is all new to me. I've only ever scoured boot sales for valves and vintage hi-fi before today.
Quite encouraged by what I've just read.
Especially as this afternoon I found D S of the Moon on E.M.I dated 1973 and Sgt Pepper on Apple dated 1967 £2 and £5 I left two other Beatles LP's. I think they were £3 or £5. The guy told me he had just sold 7 Beatles LP's including one on red vinyl. There was a whole lot more there
Dylan,The Animals,Simon and Garfunkle ,Fairport Convention etc etc.

Where the hell do you live Stuart?

Next time I'm in the UK, I will make a determined effort to be there for a weekend.

May have come unstuck with the last two albums.
They do appear to be rather battered.
Probably the reason the previous buyer rejected them.
I will have to look more closely in future.
Oh yes Stuart I live in Somerset.
Off to a radio rally tommorow.Trouble is all the interesting stuff seems to have gone.

Paul B,
On that note how do you rate 12" LP cut at 45RPM, ie the Bridge Over Troubled Water recut on 4 x 12", and did you ever hear any of the Pye/Nixa 78s on vinyl, astounding with a lightweight cartridge.
